Leigh Burges has taken outright victory in the opening NSW Production Touring Cars enduro of the season at One Raceway, coming out on top in his BMW M2 after a weekend-long battle with two-time Bathurst 6 Hour winner and fellow Class X competitor Simon Hodges.
Hodges took out the two preliminary sprint races and led the early laps of the one-hour enduro before Burges shot through to the lead. Hodges regained the ascendancy after the compulsory pit stop cycle and crossed the finish line first, but a post-race penalty relegated him to second behind Burges.
Jayson Williamson made it an all BMW outright podium with third place, also taking the Class A1 win.
Class B1 went to Adam Gosling in his Honda Civic Type R with fifth outright, one spot behind B2 winners Tony Virag/Liam Evans in their VF Commodore SS.
The Renault Megane RS of Matt Bolton was the winner of Class C in 10th outright, while the Class D win (11th outright) for Sean Cade and Jacob Wolf’s VW Golf GTi was enough for Cade to take the overall series lead, courtesy of the healthy attendance in Class D and thus the heavier points weighting compared to the other classes.
The next NSW PTC round will be a twin endurance event at Winton Raceway, 10-11 May.
