The NSW Production Touring Cars Championship resumes at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend, with Round 5 to be held as part of the ARDC Super 70 event.

While the race meeting is only offering points for the NSW PTC Club Championship (and not the Motorsport Australia State Championship), there is still a good variety of cars on the entry list.

Following his lap record-breaking performance in the previous round, Simon Hodges will be aiming to add some more race victories to his tally aboard the Secure Wealth Advisers BMW M4.

The similar M4 of Anthony Soole should also be one of the front-runners in Class X as well as battling for outright honours.

The other Class X car is Matthew Kiss’ VF HSV GTS. Other HSVs in the field include the VE of Robert Coulthard, and the older VX of long-time campaigner Paul Wilbow, who makes a welcome return to the category.

The all-wheel-drive brigade is represented by championship contender Dimitri Agathos in his Subaru WRX STI, along with Matt Boylan who took out the one-hour enduro in June. Also in an Evo X is Chris Sutton, who moves across from the Subaru WRX he drove to second outright in the Sydney 300.

One manufacturer with an increasing presence on the NSW PTC grid in recent seasons has been Volkswagen, and there are five in the field this weekend; the Scirocco of Robert Bryden, Polo of Oscar Butt and a trio of Golfs for Stephen Muller, Michael Ferns and Sean Cade, who takes over driving duties from his state championship-leading son Liam.

Other notable entrants include category sponsor Allworth Homes owner Stephen Thompson (in a Toyota 86) and Stewart Follows, who had some fine performances at Wakefield Park in the wet earlier in the year and will be one to watch if it rains.

The weekend’s format will consist of four sprint races – two on Saturday and two on Sunday.
